Sara Schmidt


Sara attended Marcus High School in Flower Mound where she received numerous awards at the school, district, and area level for volleyball. After graduating in 1999, Sara attended Texas A&M Commerce where she continued her volleyball career.

In Commerce, she was awarded on the school and conference level for hitting, serving, and defense. Currently she has the most digs of any non-defensive specialists and is on the Top Ten List for kills. Sara graduated with a degree in Business Administration and worked in the title industry before returning to school to become a teacher.

After teaching for a few years, she decided to go back to school to become a librarian. Sara was the librarian at Hedrick Elementary School in Lewisville, TX. She is now living the dream as a stay-at-home mom.

Fun facts: Sara loves to read, dance and play sports when she has free time. She has three fantastic sisters and an awesome niece and nephew. Sara lives in Corinth with her fabulous husband, Jason. They are proud parents of Elise, Sean and Baby Patrick.

Shawna Werts - Lead Coach TVA @ NISD


Shawna Werts played volleyball, basketball, softball and ran track throughout high school. She received a full athletic scholarship to play volleyball at the University of Central Oklahoma where she was the setter and enjoyed All-Conference Honors her sophomore, junior and Senior years and still holds a school record or two.

Shawna has coached high school volleyball for 20 years. She began at Casady School in Oklahoma City as a head coach at the age of 21. She then finished her education degree and began teaching and coaching at Edmond Memorial High School in Edmond, OK where she was an assistant coach for a few years before becoming the varsity coach for the next seven years.

In 2000 she and her family moved to Texas and she became the varsity assistant and JV volleyball coach & varsity assistant basketball coach at Grapevine High School for eight years. She currently works at Killough Lewisville High School where she teaches AVID (a college readiness program.)

Fun facts: Shawna has been married to her husband, Jeremy for 20 years. He is an English teacher at Flower Mound High School. They have two kids, Molly (18) who plays volleyball for Loyola University (Maryland) and Jack (9).
