Leslie Slovak

Leslie grew up in Mt. Pleasant, Texas, where she was a multi-sport athlete, competing in volleyball, basketball and tennis. She earned All-Region honors in basketball, was named All-State in volleyball, and played in the TGCA All-Star Volleyball Game. Leslie is also a member of the Mt. Pleasant High School Hall of Fame.

Leslie continued her volleyball career at East Texas State University, where she excelled as both an outside hitter and middle blocker. A three-time All-Lone Star Conference selection, she still ranks fifth on the program’s all-time kill list. She also once held the NCAA record across Divisions I, II, and III for most kills in a match. Academically, Leslie earned a degree in education, made the Dean’s List every semester, and was named Academic All-Conference multiple times.

After graduating, Leslie began her career in education as a teacher and coach at Berkner High School in Richardson, Texas. As head volleyball coach, she led the Rams to a regional tournament appearance. After six years at Berkner, she transitioned into athletic administration, becoming the Assistant Athletic Director for Richardson ISD. She served in that role for 15 years before being named the district’s Athletic Director, a position she held for nine years.

During her tenure, Leslie also served as Region 3 Director, President-Elect, and President of the Texas High School Athletic Directors’ Association. She was honored three times as Regional Athletic Director of the Year. Leslie retired from Richardson ISD in June 2025.

Fun Facts: Leslie and her husband, JP, have two children, Annika and Cade. Annika played volleyball at Pearce High School and Lamar University and now works at Region 10 Education Service Center. Cade is a freshman at Pearce High School, where he participates in football and baseball.
In college, after tearing her ACL and being sidelined for a year, Leslie once got so bored in the gym that she taught herself how to juggle—using volleyballs!
